Cloning myself to solve multi-generational problems

Posted on 14th Nov, 2025

I have been considering closing myself in order to work on hard problems can potentially cannot be solved within a single lifetime, or problems that can benefit a lot if the context was carried over multiple generations.

This includes problems such as construction of mega space stations such as dyson sphere, terra forming planets, RnD on faster than lightspeed engines, visiting planets outside the solar system, fusion powered rocket engines, political transformation of a country, etc.

The end goal of closing yourself is to replace yourself as the CEO of your company when you are too old to carry on the work. The plan would be to get the clone to join your company when it’s around 20 years old, and slowly hand over the reigns over a 20/30 year period.

Cloning not only helps founders, it also can enables VC’s to take ultra long term bets, it enables political leaders to think more long term etc.

Note: There have been several ideas proposed in SciFi shows around this issue. Examples are the concept of “Stack and Sleeve” in Altered Carbon. Intermittant cryo sleeps where the founders wakes up for 6 months every 7 years (https://www.story.inc/) , conciousness transfer from one body to another (Black Mirror). However none of these methods are even remotely possible using present day technology.

Cloning is the only one that can be achieved in present times.

This article is a discussion on how an individual can plan to clone themselves and what are the high level things to think about. This article only discusses the managerial side of raising a clone. The legality and ethical side of doing this has not been discussed in this post.

Here, we assume that the goals, ambition, personality and skills of the child are primary dependant on the DNA.

Challenges -

There are 3 stages to this -

Pre-birth (Womb)

The very first step is to be have a baby conceieved with your exact same DNA. This step involves making a human embreyo using your DNA. Need to do more research but I believe this is not too hard using modern stem cell technology or IVF.

Once the embriyo is ready, it needs to be planted in a surrogate mother. This process is already well understood since surrogacy is already very common.

The unknown to worry about here is - the effect of the surrogate mother on the child are not clearly understood. Hence it is suggested that founders get multiple clones made using a wide variety of surrogate mothers. This would vary according to geography, race, profession, etc.

Given that it takes ~25-30 years to raise a clone and see the results, founders won’t get a second chance if there clone does not work out (assuming that you start your first clone when you are ~30). Hence, get multiple clones made to increase the chances of having a clone that is fit to take over as the CEO of your company.

This of course raises your costs multi-fold.

Post birth

Age 0-13

Once the clone is born, you have to raise it, like a child. There are 2 option to choose from -

  1. Where will you keep the child? do you keep it with you, in your house, where you might have a family? But your kids and wife may not be okay with that. They could also feel very insure about it.
  1. So, do you grow the child in a foster family? But the foster family will/could have a significant impact on how the child shapes up

I am not sure that the right answer is here, but again having multiple clones done would be the way to go.

Post birth

(Growing years)

This is where things get complicated, and every decision is likely to have a big impact on the final outcome.

Let’s look at some of the things to worry about -

  1. When do you tell the clone that it is a clone?
  1. What are the possible cycological impact of knowiing that you are a clone?
  1. What if the clone decides to kill you and take over your life?
  1. What is the clone does not cooperate? or simply starts competing with you?
  1. What if the clone does not want to take over as the CEO of your company? maybe they are not interested in the same problems you are?

Post company joining

  1. What is the clone wants “freedom”. It does not want to be subordinate to you, and wants to do it’s own things?

Other Ideas

DNA based tweaking to improve your clone

After writing this, I realised there is a much better solution, adopt children, lol. So I am scrapping this idea.

After writing this article, I got to know the Chinese billionaires are doing something similar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNb9dCLhlv4
